SOC design platformSonics Inc. has made official the supply of a solution for the MIPS Technologies MlPS32 processor core integration in the context of its own MicroNetwork Sonics.
The solution, specifically, supports the 4Kc core with a bridge logic that is completely validated, connecting the native interface to the standard Open Core Protocol (OCP). OCP-compliant, thus conceived, guarantees significant advantages, tied in primarily to the "plug-and-play" integration offered by Sonics MicroNetwork.
Mips Technologies customers, dealing with integration problems of mare than one core IPs (intellectual property) in their SQO projects, will be able to substantially reduce their time-to-integration cycles owing to the "reuse-without-rework" strategy, made possible by the socket-based approach of the OCP standard.
This way a complete integration solution has been made available for high performance projects that contain more than one process cores, in which a shared access to resources is necessary.
As well as creating the OCP-compliant interface for the 4Kc core, Sonics has developed a complete SOC integration solution that covers the logic implementation and synthesis scripts.
The illustration depicts an example based on this solution. The application is a SOHO single-chip router and it integrates a CPU 4Kc that operates as system controller, two MAC 10/100 Ethernet (WAN side and LAN side), a USB Host, an embedded synchronous SRAM, a DRAM memory controller and a PC bus interface: everything is interconnected with the Sonics MicroNetwork.
