Single chip PCI solution developmentA new evaluation kit, prepared by Toshiba Electronics, will significantly simplify the development and testing of the most recent low consumption and high performance PCI bus-based embedded systems, and it will make easier the migration of older bus architectures to more modern solutions on the PCI bus.
Suitable for the development of industrial PCs and control systems that contain Ethernet, USB or graphical controller systems, the JMR- TX3297 evaluation kit contains all the necessary hardware and software to evaluate the applications based on Toshiba’s microprocessor Risc TX3297.
The TX3297 chip is a monolithic solution that eliminates the need to use a separate PCI controller, since it is already supplied with: a 133 MHz 32 bit Risc Mips elaboration nucleus; a PCI bus controller, and one of SDRAM, ROM, Flash and DMA memories; serial and parallel ports, as well as a counter/timer.
The kit’s hardware is made up of: a 133 MHz TX3297 processor card; 4 Mbyte of a 32 bit Flash memory; 1 Mbyte 16 bit Flash memory and 16 Mbyte Sdram memory expandable to 64 Mbyte. The Sdram and the Flash can be expanded even outside the card, which already includes an Ethernet port; two channels for 1/0 serial; a connector for PCI bus; a PCI base; two connectors to superimpose other cards and a D SU interface.
The CD-ROM supplied with the kit contains all the manuals related to the card and the single components used; a testing program of the hardware and the complete suite of Cygnus TX39 GNUPro development programs, including a compiler and Cygmon ROM monitor.
