Embedded laser
Solid state lasers play an important role world-wide for material processing. Lasers can now be found in almost all areas throughout the manufacturing spectrum. The application possibilities are very diverse. There are new applications being developed daily. They are coming from many industries such as electronics, medical device industry, automotive, aerospace and others. For example, within the electronic and precision technology industry there are applications where electrical contacts are welded, thin metal stencils are cut or tiny springs for watches are produced.
Lasag, a company of the Swatch group, based in Thun (Switzerland), has developed a laser equipment called KLS 246. Among various applications, precision cutting. This laser system can carry out incisions just 30 micron wide and 2 millimetres thick. The system has two RS 232 interfaces to connect it to other systems and PCs.
The equipment can be programmed for operation from portable terminals such as PCs, as well as from embedded terminals. Electronic circuits and optical systems are protected in accordance to IP 54 and NEMA 15 against dust and water. The laser source was designed in conformity with EMC regulations.
Due to their excellent beam-quality and high peak power KLS series lasers are ideal for fine cutting, drilling and precision joining
