New impulse to optical networks
Intel's investments in the Optical sector have significantly increased in the past few months: this effort has brought the semiconductor manufacturer to being one of the first players in this market, both for technological innovation and for the wide range of components on offer. In the month of March, Intel has announced 5 new networking components, which offer greater flexibility to device producers at 10 Gigabit per second. The new line of products goes from the enterprise, metropolitan segment to the long-haul one. The offer includes Intel IXF18101 10 Gigabit Ethernet MAC and OC-102 SONET framers, which manage multiprotocol data transmission on optical networks, and two new PMA (Physical Medium Attachment) devices, chipsets LXT16706/07 and LXT16768/69 SerDes. From a technological point of view, the Company has announced having recently introduced photonics in their engineering, a technology manipulating luminous impulses on fibre optics, reinforcing optic-electronic components and integrated optical modules. With this technology it is possible to convert electronic signals into luminous signals, and vice versa, for network data transmission and elaboration, with benefits for producers who can therefore make ever faster and cheaper telecommunication equipment.
