 Fiat and GM: first model end of year 2002
The alliance between Fiat and GM is there, but the first Opel model yielded from this “marriage” will be seen only at the end of year 2002.
The confirmation arrived from Wolfgang Strinz, Opel’s vice-chairman, during the presentation of the new Ruesselsheim (D) plant. Opel’s vice-chairman, speaking of the new projects deriving from the joint venture between the two automotive companies, said «We are already working on some models, which could also include one that would compete with BMW X5 and Mercedes class M, and we are considering the possibility of a common platform for the new generation of Opel Corsa and Fiat».Opel’s executive did not hide the savings that would derive from this union.
