Old computers and disused printers will be coming back to life owing to Scrap’s ecological commitment.Scrap, born with a management that for its greatest part arrives from IBM, in its first three months of activity, has already carried out the recovery and the processing of over 100 tons of technological waste (computers and peripherals) otherwise destined to the dump.
The problem of technological refuse is constantly more important.
During the year 2000 in Italy 750.000 PCs and 100.000 portables were discarded, with a 90% destination of the dump. Within the end of the year 2001 it is expected that discarded PC will be around 900.000 and 140.000 portables (these figures are not counting peripherals).
In Europe in 2000, against 10 million new PCs installed, 6 million tons pf electrical and electronic ended up in the dump.
Every year in the world 60 million toner cartridges and over 500 million ink-jet printer cartridges are used. Scrap succeeds in recovering up to 90% raw/second materials on the overall weight, allowing a sizeable energetic and raw material saving.
