Cadence and Agilent integration

Cadence Design Systems Inc. and Agilent Technologies Inc. announced a far-reaching, multi-year technology alliance that is expected to accelerate electronic product development in the communications industry.

Through this alliance, the industry leaders in electronic and radio-frequency (RF) design, respectively, expect to develop and market complete integrated solutions to speed the design of ICs for the wireless and wireline communications industries.

This industry is slated to be one of the fastest growing segments of the economy over the next few years. In the first phase of the alliance, the companies will jointly develop a more integrated design flow for large-scale RF/mixed-signal integrated circuits (RF/MS ICs) used in wireless appliances and high-speed networking equipment. By eliminating the need for electronics companies to spend time integrating separate electronic design technologies, a jointly developed RF/MS IC design flow is expected to substantially shorten product development time, lower design costs, and enable companies to focus on creating innovative products.

The companies have initiated co-development of a more integrated design flow involving the Cadence Analog Design Environment(r) and Agilent Advanced Design System (ADS) software to improve interactivity. Cadence Analog Design Environment is a front-to-back analog design solution for full-custom analog and RF IC design. Agilent ADS is electronic design software for communications product design. Jointly developed solutions, beginning with a significantly tighter integration of these complementary technologies, are expected to become available as early as the second half of 2002.

In future phases, Cadence and Agilent expect to expand the design flow to incorporate additional electronic design, verification, and test technologies from both companies. The result will be a complete systems-to-IC design implementation solution.
