One of the last outposts of Socialism is definitely opening up to private enterprise. Chinese president Jiang Zemin has announced that the Chinese Communist Party will open doors to entrepreneurs. At the beginning of this year the government had authorised Chinese private enterprises to have better access to Chinese stock exchange, now also welcoming capitalists: the clearing of the way of transition in Chinese economy towards "the market" is by now in full evolution.
The announcement, a flash of lightning in a clear sky, took place during the speech that president Jiang was holding in the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the party. For the Chinese it was a real surprise since the defence of the superiority of the socialist system was one of the most used warhorses during the last election campaign.
This was an ideological change dictated also by a desperate effort to maintain its relevance in a nation where some very deep economic and social changes are underway. The decision also shows, however, that the growing presence of private capital has become determining for the future of this great country.
