ABB has introduced a new family of alternate current drives: the ACS 800 Series. The new products' size was reduced by at least 50% compared to the previous ACS 600 range and its DTC (Direct Torque Control) technology supplies a rapid response to variations in motor load and allowing smoother operation. The ACS 800 is also fitted with integral EMC filters and chokes; all located inside the drive.Easier commissioning is achieved through the use of the Start-up Assistant that helps the user through the installation, while complex programming is easily achieved using Adaptive Programming. Everything that is needed in an AC drive can be mounted inside the drive including integrated RFI filters, chokes, brake choppers, I/O extensions, fieldbuses and pulse encoder module
Inside the drive, slots for up to three plug-in option modules and other accessories are also available, removing the need for external extension modules. There is no need to reserve extra space and no extra cabling is needed, saving substantial costs.
The ACS 800 is backward compatible with the previous ACS 600 family.
The parameters have the same name and scaling; there is no need to change the PLC programme that communicates with the ACS 800; and there is no need to draw new circuit diagrams.
The ACS 800 will be rated from 1.1 to 500kW and at supply voltages of 380 to 500V, with 690V versions coming later in the year.
