Gas pipelines for the laying down of optic fiber cables: this is the first project in Italy carried out by Alcatel, in the province of Treviso, for Asco Piave, the most important Multiutilities company of the province, represents the first model for use of existing underground structures for a 2 km long fiber optics cables connection.Alcatel Italia, exploiting these existing systems, fulfils forward the requirements of multiutilities companies to optimize the resources of local situations for the creation of communication networks. The use of this cables laying technique allows a significant reduction of environmental impact and town suitability, considerably reducing the excavation works that would otherwise be necessary.
This installation technique for Tlc networks using the methane pipeline implies requests of excavation permits limited to the sole points of intervention and a corresponding increased capacity in the realization stages with a remarkable decrease of road network problems as well as a reduction in the overall costs for excavation works. Already experimented in Taiwan, for a backbone 500 Km cable network; and in Germany, through two networks of 10 and 8 km created near Dusseldorf.
Alcatel, 110.000 employees, a sales volume of 31 billion euro in 2000 and with branches in 130 countries, makes networks and provides integrated end-to-end voice and data solutions to operators, companies and private persons throughout the world.
