A luminous sponsor for the 2002 Cup
Gerard Kleisterlee, chairman and managing director of Royal Philips Electronics, and Joseph Blatter, Fifa chairman, have signed the contract for the sponsoring of the Football World Cup, which will be held in Korea and Japan next year. The agreement also includes Philips’ sponsoring of the feminine World Cup 2003, which will be held in People’s Republic of China.In the occasion of the football event, the company, in association with Fifa, will offer a range of specific products and services for stadiums. In the lighting department Philips has developed a number of special systems that create no shadows and improve the quality of the image for television shootings. In 7 out of 10 stadiums, where the games will be played, Philips Lighting systems were used. As official partner, Philips will have some advertising billboards available on the field, in each of the 20 stadiums where the 64 World Cup matches will beheld, and will be able to use, exclusively, the logos and the symbols of the Cup on the packaging of its products.
