Areva was formed in France, the first nuclear group in the world. The new entity was borne of the agreement between the Commissary for French atomic energy (Cea), Cogema and Framatome.The holding will be controlled for its 78,96% by Cea and for 5,16% by the State. Other Areva stockholders are: Investment certificate bearers (4,03%), Erap (3,21%), Edf (2,42%), Alcatel (2,23%), employee stockholders (Framepargne: 1,58%), Cdc (1,36%) and Total Fina-Elf (1,02%).
Proceeds for the new entity, grouping over 45.000 people, is estimated to be around 10 billion euro, of which 75% solely from the nuclear.
Areva is present in all the activities of the nuclear cycle, from mine extraction in the mines to the dismantling of installations, until reactors and fuels. The new group also owns a high non-nuclear technology sector owing to participation of Cea (11%) in the French-Italian electronic Stmicroelectronics and Fci of the Framatome group.
