A new convergence between the EDA and the embedded sectors is underway, intended as part of he industrial automation market.Alberto Sangiovanni Vincentelli (in the picture), a professor at Berkley University and CEO of various companies of the sector, remarked on the subject during his intervention in the context of the 39th DAC (New Orleans ) and discussed how this intuition is, in fact, a reality. Vincentelli placed the emphasis on the financial issues tied into this evolution. The embedded sector and especially the software tied into it represent, according to this eminent opinion, a very interesting market for the companies of the EDA world.
The introduction of specific languages for embedded applications such as UML and SDL, the development of new operating systems that act in real time opening unexpected frontiers towards industrial applications.
Also the VSIA organisation activity towards the establishing of a new standard, to define univocally the embedded software and its industrial applications, is demonstrating that this is underway, in terms of applications of industrial automation, a true market.
