Montedison: 2000, positive environment results
The seventh edition of the Environmental Report 2000 by Montedison, shows quite positive results: consumption of fuel and water was reduced, emissions brought down, waste production curbed.Although the overall energy consumption has increased by 2,6%, the production of the Company has recorded a decrease of 30% for fuel consumption and an increase of 45% in the industrial use of vapour obtained from combined and co-generation cycle. Details relative to the use of water (of which 80% is made up of sea water for cooling, returned to the environment basically unaltered) manifest an overall decline of 2,7%, and more specifically, underground drawing is reduced by 7%. A sharp reduction of atmospheric emissions of sulphur oxide (33%) and nitrogen oxide (11%), for carbon dioxide there is a contained increase of 0,6%. Even the polluting load in water waste, shown by the Cod (Chemical oxygen demand), is reduced by 2%. Finally, waste disposal, considering overall dangerous and non-dangerous ones, indicate a contraction of 10%.
